Beauty In Focus | Retreatment Botanics

The Wedding Series had the privilege of speaking with Trudi Jaye, General Manager and Brand Developer of Retreatment Botanics, the pure, natural performance skincare range created by Olivia Newton-John and her team of top skin care experts and scientists.

What is the concept behind Retreatment Botanics?

Retreatment Botanics was created to complement the unique and World Class spa treatments we offer at Gaia Retreat & Spa in the Byron Bay Hinterland.

We have some of the world’s leading intuitive therapists who integrate healing spa rituals into our award winning treatments. Over time it was apparent that we needed to create our own unique formulas that honour our commitment to integrity with the highest quality ingredients that really work!

We also wanted a way for guests to take home the sensory journey of Gaia, so they could relive the blissful sense of a spa retreat, every day at home.

What is the philosophy behind the range?

Olivia, the Gaia directors, myself and the entire team of skincare experts at our retreat, wanted the range to be created without compromise.

For this reason, it was essential that every formula be Certified Palm Oil- Free, Cruelty Free and Vegan. It was also essential that our products and packaging have as minimal impact on our environment as possible, while at the same time delivering real and noticeable skin care results.

We worked alongside incredible green skincare scientists to achieve this, upholding our ethos that we don’t need to harm animals or our planet to effectively look after our skin.

What are the key ingredients used in the products?

We use all-natural Australian botanicals, such as Kakadu Plum, Caviar Lime, Wild Rosella Flower, Plantbased Hyaluronic Acid, Green Tea, Byron Bay Green Coffee Extract, Buriti Fruit, and so many more.

What is really unique is that we use a world-first extraction method called Australian Cellular BiomimicryTM. Basically, to survive in the harshest places on earth, Australian native plants intelligently store super high concentrations of antioxidants and vitamins. They are just incredible for the skin. This new technology is able to capture these powerful phyto-compounds as they exist in nature, in their most active and stable form.

For example, our Kakadu Plum-derived vitamin C is accompanied by enzymatic systems, allowing for its recycle back to active state after being oxidised, or used in our body, a property that synthetic or purified C simply can’t have. This process extends the longevity of the vitamin C, keeping it stable, active and potent for long periods of time.

What tips would you give brides-to-be to care for their skin in the lead up to their wedding day?

1. Prep your skin from the inside out, by eating a well-balanced diet. Skip processed foods and be sure to enjoy plenty of natural whole foods and antioxidant-rich fruits and vegetables.

2. Drink lots of water each day and swap caffeinated drinks for delicious herbal teas. Skip alcohol too, replacing it with fresh juice mocktails or sparkling water with lemon or lime. This will help to minimise bloating and puffiness, reduce congestion in the skin and prevent dark under eye circles.

3. Start having regular, professional facials at least one a month and create a dedicated home care ritual for your skin.

4. Exfoliate skin regularly but check your product. Too harsh scrubs, or super-strong chemicals can leave skin stressed out or even damaged. Opt for a gentle product with a multi-pronged approach, such as Retreatment Botanics Refining Face Polish. It combines AHA rich Lilly Pilly with gentle fruit acids, jojoba beads and kaolin clay to provide a gentle but truly effective exfoliation.

5. Use a masque every week to refresh and hydrate the skin. Choose one that rejuvenates as it infuses antioxidants, vitamins and moisture. Retreatment Botanics Instant Glow Face Masque doses skin with antioxidant-rich Emu Apple, Kakadu Plum and Kale. It also contains gentle fruit acids and Papaya enzymes, which work to brighten and renew, leaving skin smooth and glowing.

6. Incorporate a serum into your twice-daily skincare. Serums offer targeted, effective results, rehydrating, calming and brightening. Retreatment Botanics Restore Serum is wonderful for softening the appearance of fine lines and restoring radiance to skin, thanks to a formula brimming with native Australian botanicals, antioxidants, vitamins and Omega 3 and 9 essential fatty acids. Retreatment Botanics Kakadu Brightening Serum is an oil-free treatment that doses skin with vitamin C, antioxidants and hyaluronic acid to balance oil flow, target hyperpigmentation, sunspots, blemishes and leaves skin luminous.

7. Begin dry body brushing every day to boost lymphatic flow while encouraging the new growth of silky-smooth skin. On that note – ensure you are hydrating the rest of your body, too. Keep both hands and body soft and supple with Retreatment Botanics Wild Kakadu Hand & Body Cream.

8. Start a dedicated exercise routine that will encourage blood flow throughout your body, in turn oxygenating cells to boost luminosity of the skin.

9. Your skin responds negatively to stress every bit as much as your mind does. Manage skin stress with meditation, filling your home or office with the scent of calming essential oils. Try Retreatment Botanics Calm Signature Blend and enjoy weekly at-home mini facials as part of your self-care ritual, using Retreatment Botanics Refining Face Polish, followed by Instant Glow Face Masque, for an in-depth facial style exfoliation that will leave your skin really glowing!

10. Get plenty of quality sleep every night. Your skin goes into rest and repair mode while you are sleeping and needs this time to stay healthy and glowing. Aim to get at least six to eight hours each night.

How far out would you recommend brides start planning their bridal skin care journey?

I would suggest at least six months. If you are introducing new products or treatments, you want to allow plenty of time for your skin to respond and improve and really glow!

What are the stand out products for you?

I truly love them all, but I adore Kakadu Brightening Serum. It absorbs quickly, instantly hydrates and you can see an immediate glow. I also love Ultra Rich Moisturiser. I love waking up in the morning, massaging it into my skin and inhaling its unique and relaxing aromas, which come from the pure essential oils we use in each product.

Another all-time favourite is Instant Glow Face Masque. Its name really tells you all you need to know, but aside from illuminating your complexion, it also sloughs away debris from the skin’s surface and leaves your complexion super hydrated and soft.
